About Novelus IP
Built by former USPTO patent examiners and patent engineers.
We started Novelus IP in 2024. We have sat on both sides of the table: as USPTO patent examiners, and as patent engineers at law firms. We know where prosecution slows down, and we build tools that make that work more efficient.
We believe in keeping a human in the loop. AI, and every automated tool we put into patent prosecution, assists the practitioner. It does not replace their judgment. A person checks the source and decides what is filed.
We also help candidates study for and pass the patent bar with Patent Law Prep, and we research local LLMs for patent prosecution: models that fit on most modern consumer hardware, so the work can stay on the practitioner’s own machine.

Does the software file for us?
We assist the work. You check the source and decide what is filed.
Where does it run, and what happens to our files?
In the cloud on AWS or Google Cloud, or on a PC or laptop with Ollama or Lemonade. Files can stay on the premises. We do not train on them.
What is Patent Law Prep?
Patent Law Prep is how we help candidates study for and pass the patent bar. It uses timed exams and study paths on the current MPEP, and the same Statuo lookup practitioners use in Novi.
What about security standards such as SOC 2 and GDPR?
We do not have SOC 2, GDPR, or similar certifications yet. We are working toward that path. Today, files can stay on the premises with Ollama or Lemonade, and we do not train on customer files.
Which outside APIs do you use?
We use public APIs from the USPTO, EDGAR, the EPA, CourtListener, and the FDA. Those calls bring in the record you are checking. You still decide what it means.
